The integration of sensors and automation in building envelopes enhances energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability by enabling real-time monitoring and control.
The dataset includes whole-building energy consumption, indoor and outdoor environmental parameters, building envelope performance characteristics as well as occupant behaviors.
An element of the Building Envelopes Research program at ORNL: Goal: Develop affordable envelope technologies that improve energy efficiency, durability and environmental sustainability of buildings, focusing on multifunctional solutions to minimize peak energy demands and overheating from solar gain.
The building envelope, which includes the walls, windows, roof, and foundation, forms the primary thermal barrier between the interior and exterior environments. With envelope technologies accounting for approximately 30% of the primary energy consumed in residential and commercial buildings, it plays a key role in determining levels of comfort, natural lighting, ventilation, and how much ...
Buildings are known to be responsible for about a third of energy consumption in developed countries. This situation, together with the fact that the existing building stock is being renovated at a very slow pace, makes it crucial to focus on the energy retrofitting of buildings as the only way to reduce their contribution to these energy consumptions and the consequences derived from them in ...
Building envelope is a key element in providing adequate energy and thermal comfort performance to buildings. In this regard, improvement solutions are implemented in recent studies that focus on ...
